Finishing Christmas

Finally!! This weekend I was able to remove our youngest son’s gifts from under our bed. We last saw him at Thanksgiving. My daughter’s family also came for a visit & we exchanged gifts. It snowed a blizzard up here too. Sort of spooky having a white Christmas in March.

If you think that March is too late to celebrate Christmas, then you would have hated last year’s Christmas – we finished it in August. Ridiculous, I know. This year, my plan is to mail gifts to the kids houses. If they can’t make the big celebration. It is my turn to host the event. I vow we will finish Christmas before the new year starts!

I can vow and declare this and that, but the truth is our kids are in their late thirty’s, and most have kids of their own. [They always had minds of their own …]  All I can do is invite them. They have to work it out with their significant others, in-laws, and whoever else is pressuring them to come to their celebration. Sigh…

Families – the reason most people drink on holidays.

Progress?

Is my estrogen dose too high?

Seriously – when a woman bursts into tears after reading a quote –  ” If we ever forget that we are One Nation  PlegeOfAllegienceUnder God, then we will be a Nation Gone Under”  – Ronald Reagan

Which would you question – her hormone level OR her sanity?

If you ask my husband that question, he will tell you “it doesn’t matter” – and when you ask why, he explains; “because her behavior is exactly the same.”  I suppose to a man it would seem so.

But I digress…

In my day – (oh golly, I must be OLD if I’m saying that!), elementary schools across the USA began each day by pledging allegiance to their country and it’s flag. Then, the teacher did the roll call, and we got down to the business of reading, writing and arithmetic. People used to refer to this as “the three R”s. [I never got that. It is one R, one W, and an A.]

I got emotional because my granddaughters would not have the Pledge of Allegiance in their classroom routine. I could not figure out what happened to remove the flags and the pledge from schools. Was it “offensive” to some parents who had no allegiance to this country? (if that is true, maybe they should move back to whatever country they pledge allegiance to.) Is the pledge too close to being a prayer? Why was it abolished?  I need to Google that issue someday.

When my hubby put up his new flagpole and flew the flag he bought from the White House that was flown on the Capitols flagpole, the day of his grandfather’s birthday. Yep, you can actually get one – who knew?

Our 5-year old granddaughter was staying with us a week in the summer, hubby let her help him run up the flag for its first time flying over our house (which is not white). She got it up there, mostly all by herself. We stood and admired it a while, hubby and I started back to the house, when our granddaughter said, “WAIT!”

She turned to face the flag and with her left hand over her heart, she began, “I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America…”  All three of us continued the pledge. I, of course, had tears running down my face. You just had to be there to feel the impact of her little body leaning backwards to watch the flag while her sweet voice began reciting.

When I told my daughter about that morning, she told me that the daycare both girls attended said the pledge every morning. I think I smiled the rest of the day.  🙂

Hope your day is full of smiles!

Watch Out Chloe!!

This poster struck me so sudden & hard, I nearly peed myself laughing. I’m sure everyone can find humor in this image – but when you know someone (and they know who they are!) who could use this solution, it’s downright hysterical.

The image of the poster is blurred, just enough to make the guy on the couch look like you-know-who, but it’s the creative use of the duct tape that is the real giveaway…
