More Things I’ve Learned About Mountain Living

My education continues, along with NaNoWriMo avoidance… (3,630 words so far – I broke my rule about reading/editing  it before December and decreased my count by 780.)  Sigh.  I have NOT given up writing – just reading 😉

There is something suspicious about winter. People ask me “will this be your first winter up here?”  When I reply “Yes”, they smile and nod, then change the subject. I have seriously begun to stock my pantry.

Dramamine is my new best friend. Everywhere we go there is a nauseatingly twisted road to get there.

Retire as soon as you possibly can!! Knitting, in your pj’s, sipping hot coffee, by a blazing wood-burning stove, is heavenly. Especially so on a business day morning  😉

Just when you think I thought winter arrived, we have 80 degree temperatures for the next 3 weeks.

A snow frosted forest is magical. See a Video Clip taken on Oct 22nd, 2012

I still have a constant sinus headache. I’m going to start vaporizing myself. During nap-time.

The Pressure Is On…

OK. On November 1st I wrote 637 words. Nov. 2nd about 260. The 3rd and 4th were spent playing with my granddaughters, because I was visiting them. What I wrote the 1st and 2nd was crap anyway.

The plan is to start fresh tomorrow (the 5th). I am 8,330 words behind at this point, and trying not to panic.
My muse better show up bright and early! I’m writing anyway, regardless. I make no promises about quantity or quality.

Now it’s early to bed to rest up for the day ahead 😉

Pre November Blues

Specifically, the NaNoWriMo jitters.

Less than a week away and I’m getting very nervous. I still have no clue about what I want to write, who my protagonist(s) are, and who’s point-of-view to tell the story (what story??) from. My brain is a vast plain of nothingness.

Maybe this is the way my subconscious prevents me from getting a head start (cheating). If so, I better wake up November 1st full of ideas and momentum. Do you hear me subconscious mind?

Then, I realize I’m not home at my computer on November 1st. I’ll be at my daughter’s house, recovering from Halloween festivities with my granddaughters. Mental Note: pack a new notebook and several pencils to take with me. Who knows? I used to write epic stories in spiral notebooks when I was a kid.  Perhaps returning to my “roots” will give me the creative boost I need. Or not.

Old Notebooks
The Pile of Epic Stories – somewhere in a box…
