Picking A Side

Kaepernick, The MagnificentIn case you are new to Not Pretending (this blog), I am a mega faithful 49er fan.

That being the case, I have a dilemma this year. I HATE the Seahawks AND the Broncos. Since both are playing in this Sunday’s Super Bowl, who the Hell am I supposed to cheer against ? Seattle is in the NFC, so should I want them to be victorious over Denver and the (too) much worshiped Peyton Manning? Should I cheer against the 49ers nemesis? The team that believes their 12th man is better than any other in the NFL? Don’t get me started… If I could root against both teams I would.

Am I crazy to be wrestling with this decision?  I am decision-making challenged to begin with. And I abhor having to pick sides.  I second guess every decision I make, not trusting myself. I blame my parents for this because they pointed out flaws with every decision or plan I ever made. But let’s not get into that now.

Who are the 49er’s rooting against?  That is the question. I browsed the 49er’s and the NFL’s websites for clues. Just when I had almost given up – Colin spoke to me. Well, sort of.

I found an article about an interview with Colin Kaepernick on the NFL website.  Colin (the magnificent) gave me the answer I was searching for.  The following is an excerpt taken from the article:

In an exclusive interview with The Post, Kaepernick unloaded on Sherman for the Seattle All-Pro corner-backs comments during his infamous TV interview after the NFC Championship Game two weeks ago and for taunting Kaepernick with a choke sign at the end of that contest.

Kaepernick said he looks forward to meeting Sherman and the Seahawks at least twice next season — and vowed that he will never fear Sherman, no matter how badly the throw to Crabtree turned out.

“I’ll take that match-up every day,” Kaepernick said. “I feel like he’s afraid of our receivers, and that’s something I look forward to [exploiting] next year.”

Oh, and because of whom Denver is facing, Kaepernick said he’s a big Broncos fan this week.

“Go Peyton!” Kaepernick said.

OK. I suppose I can suck it up and be on Peyton’s side. But just this one time. And only because Colin is.  😉

Go Colin!!

49er’s Fans Ask For Less Comments and More Action

49er-logoIn spite of their efforts to beef up defense against running plays, and their  defensive lineman that thinks he is the God Of Thunder, the 49er’s beat Green Bay in the season opener. Again.

It was a great, exciting game! In spite of my usual complaint.

So, Troy Aiken and Joe Buck – why did you re-play the same tackle (over and over, and over again), showing Kaepernick getting massacred by Clay Matthews? This happened in the first half – along with many other plays that ended happier. Maybe it was the brawl that broke out after the hit that captivated you.

I agree that Matthews late hit was a nasty move, in fact, hubby and I both roared in protest when it happened.  A penalty was called, the players warned, and the next play was underway. We all had to move on. Everyone, except you two, moved on.

Then, y’all started talking about the ‘big mistake’ the ref’s made by ruling the repeat of the 3rd down. Then you speculated about how the 49er’s would not have gotten a touchdown otherwise. Oh, really??

There is no rule that says you have to kick on the 4th down. The 49er’s may have decided to go for it on the 4th down. Y’all don’t read minds, you just repeat whatever pops into your head at the time.  And… who says that repeating the 3rd down was a mistake? After all, this was not your typical ‘late hit’, was it?

All during the pre-season and tonight’s opener, I am increasingly irritated by inane chatter and opinions offered by whoever happens to be in the announcer’s box.

Don’t get me wrong – I love you, Troy and Joe. You are the least annoying commentators I’ve seen.  But…  this is me and I have to give you some tips on how you can improve your fanability*.

1. Enough of the reciting of stats and prior season flashbacks  – we are trying to watch this game. The one our team is playing. Now.

2. We do not care what happened in Miami five years ago. And we certainly don’t want to miss our teams current play so you can show film clips of the damned thing.

3. Your job is not to entertain us. We don’t care what you think the players or the coach is thinking, or going to do.

4. Some history or trivia about the players is fine to pass along (but NOT during a play). Re-plays of the last play are fine – once. The next play will be soon, and we want to watch that play as it happens.

5. If you don’t have something pertinent to the current game – shut up and watch.

😉

Gotta LOVE The New Guys!

49er-logo   This season will be talked about for years…

The SF 49er’s returning veterans, along with the talented athletes joining us this year, will be out-classing every team on the play schedule. And that is coming directly from the gal who said in Sept. 2012 – “……. Super Bowl!”

We exploded all over the San Diego Chargers last night, beating them by 28 points. There were many unbelievable plays, by the newest 49ers. You know, the ones that leave you with your mouth wide open saying “WHAT the Hell just happened!?!” The commentators replay them from all angles so you can maybe figure it out, but you are already clapping, pumping your fist, or doing a happy dance because the 49er’s scored more points. This is way more important than if we understand how they did it.

Let Coach Harbaugh worry about that.

🙂

GO NINER’S!!!
