Better Luck Next Time, Alex

49er-logo  Against another team that is.

Were Coach Reid and Alex Smith trying to humiliate the 49ers? Did they forget this was pre-season football and they needed to evaluate their non-starters? Sure, the 49ers were tailing behind the Chiefs 98% of the game.

Considering that our 2nd & 3rd string players were out there against the Chief’s starting line-up, I think we held our own quite well.

I especially enjoyed how the game ended.  🙂

WAY TO GO NINERS!!

Musical Quarterbacks

Holy Crap, Batman!

Peyton Manning becomes a free-agent and the NFL goes insane. Coaches that already have excellent quarterbacks, who BTW, brought their teams to the last game of the playoffs & beyond. Just 2 months ago, people!  Are memories really that bad? Is Manning really that great?

The 49er and the Bronco management teams obviously think so. Manning was apparently worth the disloyalty and embarrassment of their incumbent star quarterbacks who,  just 2 months ago, brought them into the winner’s circle.

The dust is settling now that Peyton has chosen Denver to be his new home. Of course, that put Tim Tebow out of a job and into the hands of the NY Jets. So, now the Jets quarterback will compete with the “Tebowmania”. Or not.

Jed York, the 49er’s CEO, told Alex Smith (after Alex signed the 49er’s contract offer), “Thanks for choosing the 49er’s, Alex. Sorry it was a tough week.”

Oh, and, by the way Alex – meet Josh Johnson. You’ll be training him to replace yourself…

Some May Call It Overkill

Not me. This 49er Faithful calls today’s game against Tampa Bay a BUC-kicking triumph! It’s not everyday that we score 45 points more than our opponent. In fact there wasn’t any day, until today.

In 2002 we scored 41 points more than the Charger’s (I’m pretty sure it was the Chargers, but I am no stat queen). That was a very good year for us. We made it to the playoffs that year.  I am not going to jinx this season by making any predictions based on one really, really good game. Too bad the media is already doing just that. They are so fickle.

I am happy for Alex. He is finally able to play some football with a sturdy offensive line, and a coach that believes in him.  I know I did my share of ranting about Alex, but I NEVER booed him from the stands. Shame on fans that boo any of our guys! Boo the refs, Boo the dirty players on the other team, but don’t boo our own. That is treason. Period.

Can’t wait until next week! I plan to start teaching my granddaughter about football  😉
